Exam scoring

The exam score for each part of the CIA exam is decided on following the standard-setting process. During this process, an international group of highly qualified internal audit professionals review the CIA questions and determine the performance level. The standard-setting process for the CIA examination consists of an industry-accepted, recognized, and well-researched method to guide the decision-making process. A passing score is then identified, which determines the number of questions a candidate is required to answer correctly in order to pass the exam. Cut scores for each part of the exam are determined based on the difficulty of the content and the questions. Thus, the number of questions required to pass each part may vary.
